I want a bagel!
I just hung up with a client of mine and we were discussing what he feels he is missing. I never want a client to feel deprived (only empowered in their choices). It came up about my former bagel habit. I mentioned to him that I currently only indulge in a bagel twice a year (yes you read that correctly). Bagels happen to be my downfall and if I allowed myself that loaded (nova, onions, capers, cream cheese) bagel more often then it would noticeably impact my body. This is not to say that I don't eat any bread. I have avocado toast or Eggs Benedict almost every weekend.
I am writing this because I want you to understand that having indulgences like the bagel, or in his case it was steak, in moderation is ok. You can enjoy a healthy lifestyle and still indulge sometimes. By the way, my advice to my client was to order lamb or a 6oz filet a couple of times a month "as needed". When you don't indulge all of the time then it tastes so much better when you actually do.
I would never tell you that you must eat healthy ALL of the time. It's just not realistic. It's also not necessary. I don't believe in willpower as a means of losing weight and keeping it off. So if you need to grab that bagel or steak once in awhile then do it. Enjoy the heck out of it! Just feel like you chose it, feel empowered, don't feel like you gave into a craving or that you were "weak". Just a reminder... it's what you do MOST of the time that matters.
