Tips to Eating Healthy During the Holidays

  • By Beth Meirav

As my clients know, I am a firm believer in a conscious indulgence (ice cream is my go-to). The holiday times though tend to lead to not just one indulgence, but many. We don't want to overdo it, right? When getting together this holiday season (in a socially distanced and masked manner of course) keep these tips in mind. Your entire body will thank you. I promise!

1.Wear fitted clothes

We are so used to the elastic waistband and spandex that we don't even realize how much we ate. Wear something with a zipper and maybe even a button!

2.Use a napkin instead of a plate

When you hit that hors d' oeuvres buffet don't grab a plate. You cannot fit very much on a napkin. Take what you desire the most and walk away. Skip seconds.

3.Eat slowly

I have mentioned this before. When you eat slowly and mindfully you can truly enjoy what you are eating. We don't always realize we are truly satisfied when we eat quickly until it's too late and we are stuffed like that Thanksgiving turkey!

4.Every meal is a Monday

I say this to my clients quite often. What I mean is that every meal/party situation is a new chance to make a healthy choice. You don't need to chalk up the entire month to "it's the holiday season so I might as well...". Indulging one day doesn't need to snowball.

5.Switch hands

Eating with your non-dominant hand, believe it or not, slows you down. This will also give you more time to have some meaningful conversations. Time to connect with that great aunt you haven't seen in 20 years!

Wishing you a wonderful happy and healthy holiday season. Thank you for reading. I am so grateful. Enjoy what's remaining of this insane year!!
