How to Meal Prep Like a Pro

How to Meal Prep Like a Pro for Healthy Living

Let’s be honest: “meal prepping” sounds like something only bodybuilders, professional chefs, or Pinterest moms do (or annoying nutrition coaches like me)

But the truth is, meal prepping is your golden ticket to less stress, better eating, and actually enjoying your week.

And yes, it can even be fun (cue the music, literally).

When to Meal Prep
Pick one block of time each week and make it sacred.

Sunday afternoons? Perfect. (that’s my go time!)

Tuesday nights after the kids go to bed? Works too.

The key is consistency. Think of it like a standing date with Future You—because Future You deserves to come home to ready-to-eat food.

What to Prep
Start small. You don’t need to cook 37 dishes and label them in matching glass containers (unless that brings you joy).

Here’s an easy formula:

Protein: Roast chicken (I pull apart a rotisserie so it’s ready to top my salads), salmon, turkey meatballs, or hard-boiled eggs (I boil off a dozen every Sunday)
Veggies: Roasted trays of broccoli, zucchini, or bell peppers
Grains: Quinoa, brown rice, or farro
Snacks: Cut fruit, veggie sticks, hummus, Greek yogurt, *see button below*
Extras: A jar of homemade vinaigrette or salsa makes you feel fancy

Pro Tip: Prep “building blocks” you can mix and match all week. It’s like your own healthy Chipotle bar, minus the up-charge for guac.

Make It Fun
Meal prep does not have to feel like punishment. Turn your kitchen into a dance floor:

Crank up your favorite playlist (80s pop? Jazz? I have been really into OAR lately)
Pour yourself a fancy mocktail or tea
Invite your partner, kids, or a friend to help—teamwork = faster prep and more laughs

Keep It Quick
Aim for 60–90 minutes max. That’s it. No one wants to spend their whole weekend in the kitchen. I have it down to 30 minutes (yea me!)

The goal isn’t perfection, it’s simplicity: chop a few veggies, cook a few proteins, and you’ll thank yourself every time you open the fridge.

Why It’s Worth It
Less decision fatigue (a.k.a. “What’s for dinner?” panic)
Healthier choices because the good stuff is ready to grab
More free time during your busy week
Fewer hangry meltdowns (trust me, you don’t want to see me hangry)

Meal prepping isn’t about becoming a gourmet chef—it’s about setting yourself up for success with a fridge full of meals you’re excited to eat. And honestly? There’s nothing more satisfying than opening your fridge and seeing neatly prepped food instead of… mystery takeout containers from last Tuesday.

So grab your cutting board, cue your playlist, and get prepping. Future You is already pumped!
