What Can You Do About Acid Reflux?
There are quite a few symptoms that are indicators of acid reflux. Do any of these sound familiar to you?
- extra saliva (after eating)
- pain in your throat
- pain in your chest
- wheezing when you lay down
- that awful feeling that food is coming back up
- burping often
- feeling like a lump is in your throat
- nausea
- difficulty swallowing
Acid reflux can be a real pain in the esophagus! You don't need to let it ruin your day. There are some simple steps you can take to keep it at bay.
- Avoid trigger foods like fatty or spicy meals (I love spicy so this is tricky for me but definitely a good idea if you suffer from acid reflux)
- Opt for smaller, more frequent meals throughout the day. Don't eat huge meals. Make sure you are eating only until satisfied.
- Stay upright for at least 30 minutes after eating. I always recommend not being sedentary for at least an hour after a meal, but 30 minutes will do the trick if that's all you've got.
- If you're a fan of bedtime snacking, try to resist the urge and give your body a chance to digest before lying down. I always recommend to my clients stopping 4 hours before bed. Let your body rest and not have to digest when you go to bed.
- Elevate your head more when you go to sleep. Perhaps a fluffier pillow or two?
- Try to avoid or at least manage stress. It definitely is a trigger for acid reflux.
- Finally, consider adding some ginger or chamomile tea to your routine - they can work wonders for soothing the stomach.
By following these tips, you can kick acid reflux to the curb and enjoy your meals without any worries!
