We all crave something at different points in our day. Craving sugar is very common. There are a number of things you could be doing that are causing you to crave sugar.
- Dehydration- Believe it or not, dehydration is actually one of the most common causes of sugar cravings. So often we think we are hungry when we are actually just thirsty. At that 3pm hour when our body is craving a treat reach for a glass of water or a cup of herbal tea and you can power through. Aim for half of your body weight in ounces of water each day. Add some lemon to make it delicious and help with detox!
- Eating too many carbs - An overconsumption of carbohydrates can cause sugar cravings. I know that big bowl of pasta looks tempting, but adding in a lean protein and some veggies (and less of the pasta) will balance your blood sugar causing less cravings and more steady energy throughout the day.
- Eating artificial sweeteners- Perhaps that Splenda packet seems harmless to you, but aside from globbing onto your organs and making it a challenge to lose weight, artificial sweeteners can cause you to have such a sweet tooth that you are craving sugar quite often. If you need to sweeten something (perhaps that herbal tea I mentioned), try a teaspoon of honey instead.
At Sadkhin Therapy, a natural weight loss center in Boca Raton, we can help you kick those cravings and build new and healthy habits!
